The Lancers took the opening set, but dropped the next three to fall 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21).
"We're just not playing consistent volleyball," said CBU Head Coach Wes Schneider. "We gave points away at times and you just can't do that. You can't take a point off against teams like that. We've been inconsistent overall lately and we need to fix that."
The loss drops CBU to 6-8 overall, 3-6 MPSF. CBU had lost just once in conference play prior to Monday, but is still looking for its first road win in the MPSF.
The Lancers blasted Stanford right out of the gates, hitting a match high .375 in the first game. CBU went up 14-7 and then rode the early lead, never letting Stanford within less than two points.
The Cardinal were the ones finding the runs from there on out, downing the Lancers in the next three games.
After hitting .036 in the first set, Stanford hit above .300 the rest of the way, finishing with a .565 attacking clip on 14 kills in the final game.
The Lancers pulled within two, 20-18 late in the fourth, but Stanford got the next two points on a CBU error and a block to go back up by four. The Lancers never got any closer.
Stanford's Brian Cook had 13 kills for the Cardinal and James Shaw had 38 assists.
"We've been saying it all season, but any team can beat any team in this conference," said Schneider. "We've got to regroup and come back focused on Wednesday."
The Lancers are back in action Wednesday night against UC Irvine and then host UC San Diego on Friday.
