The Lancers made a run late in the opener, but were thwarted by a diving catch, losing 8-6 and then were shutout in the afternoon contest, 5-0.
Trailing 8-4 heading into the ninth, the Lancers got RBI singles from Ryan Cathers and Andy Crowley to move to within two, and with two outs in the inning had runners on second and third with Travis Sais at the plate.
Sais battled down to his final strike and with a 2-2 count, slapped a sinking liner out towards right field. Wesley Wallace got a good jump on the ball moving in and to his right, diving to make the game saving play for SSU.
George Asmus, who came in in relief in the fourth, got the win, throwing 5.2 innings of four hit ball.
A two run shot by Luke Esquerra helped chase SSU starter Austin Wiggins in the third. Esquerra was 3 for 4 in the opener.
CBU went through four pitchers in the early game after starter Michael Davis was removed in the second inning. David Herd got the bulk of the rest of the work, going 5.1 innings, giving up four hits and just one earned run.
Even after the late game rally, CBU couldn't keep any momentum going into the second game, as the Lancer bats were shut down by Sea Wolves' starter Glenn Wallace. Wallace threw six innings of one-hit ball to move to 1-0.
CBU went through five arms in the late game, giving up a total of five runs on nine hits. Adam Hofacket took the loss falling to 0-2.
The pair of losses drops the Lancers to 3-6 on the year, while SSU moves to 6-2. CBU is back in action Thursday when they open a three game series with Cal State San Bernardino.
