The Lancers put up four runs of the final frame to take the opener in exciting fashion, but then suffered heartbreak in the seventh against SCS losing on a walk-off homer.
In a back and forth early game against UMD, it was 6-6 heading into the seventh inning. An error by the Bulldogs' pitcher allowed the go ahead run to score. The Lancers would load the bases up and plate three more on a fielder's choice, wild pitch and walk.
CBU scored its 10 runs on seven hits and one Bulldog error in the game.
UMD scored two runs in the bottom half of the seventh on a two-out, two-run shot. Jessica Avila would get the final groundout, though, to seal the win for the Lancers.
Belinda Renne threw six innings for CBU, giving up six hits and six runs for the win to move to 3-0 on the season. Avila threw the final inning for CBU.
Mara Rodriguez was 4 for 5 in the game, driving in three runs and scoring two to lead the Lancers. Through five games at the invite Rodriguez notched 10 RBI.
In the late game it looked like Avila would hold the Husky offense in check and the Lancer offense had done just enough until Mikayla Hogan came up to bat with two outs and one on. Hogan hit a shot to center field to win the game for SCS.
Rachel Meyer had singled in the go-ahead run for CBU in the sixth. Meyer tallied all three RBI in the game for the Lancers, hitting her fifth home run of the season earlier in the game for a two-run shot.
Avila gave up four runs on 11 hits to take the loss. She falls to 1-2 on the season.
The split moves the Lancers to 4-3 on the year.
