RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- An already tough series with Cal Poly Pomona got even tougher on Saturday as California Baptist University was swept at home by the Broncos.

After suffering a walk-off loss to Cal Poly in Pomona on Thursday, CBU fell 5-2 in the opener and then 6-2 in the late game of a twin-bill on Saturday.

The Lancers managed 10 hits and just four runs over 18 innings in the doubleheader.

CBU struck first in the early game when Antonio Chavarria singled in a run up the middle in the second inning and after answering the Bronco's run in the top of the third, CBU led 2-1.

A four run fifth from CPP, however, put the Lancers in a hole they were not able to climb out of. Two of the Bronco's runs in the frame came on an error and Joseph Eusabio doubled in two more.

Kevin Bosson threw eight innings for CPP, giving up three hits and two runs, to move to 2-0 on the season.

David Herd also went eight innings for the Lancers, giving up nine hits and four earned runs. Herd falls to 1-1.

An early 5-0 lead through the first three innings of the late game was more than enough for the Broncos. The Lancers managed runs in the fifth and eighth, but could never mount a comeback.

After Matt Marnati singled in a run in the eighth, the Lancers had runners on the corners with two outs, but couldn't push past another run.

CBU got RBI from Travis Sais and Marnati in the game. Sais was 2 for 4 in the game and was the only Lancer with multiple hits.

Adam Hofacket took the loss in the contest to fall to 0-1, while J.J. Franklin got the win for the Broncos. Franklin went the minimum five innings to get the victory and move to 1-0.

Just two of the runs given up by Lancer pitching in the second game were earned as the CBU defense made four errors.

CBU falls to 2-4 with the pair of losses and the Broncos improve to 7-0. The Lancers host Sonoma State in a three game set next weekend.
