RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University hosted the Argonauts of Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday. It was a tough PacWest battle between the eighth-place Lancers and ninth-place Argonauts.

CBU took the win 68-54, completing a men and women's double-header defeat of the Argonauts and Lady Argos. CBU relied on a team effort to down the Argonauts.

The Lancers came out rolling as a 3-pointer from Andrew Fisk and a fast break lay-up from Ivan Patterson left them with a quick 5-0 lead.

The Argonauts got on a roll after that, hitting shots to pull to a 12-8 lead. Wesley White led the Argonauts with five points in the first 10 minutes.

Fisk and Patterson each had five within the first 10 minutes, and a 3-point shot from Anthony Romero helped CBU retake the lead 15-12 halfway into the first half.

14:47 into the first half, the Lancers were leading 19-14 when Kyle Wong went up for a 3-point shot from two-feet behind the arc. He missed the shot, but Kevin Crabb was right under the rim and ready for the put back to make it 21-14.

After some more points in the paint from Crabb, Romero added two last-second lay-ups to put the Lancers up 30-21 with 1:29 left in the half.

Crabb and White led all scorers through the first 20-minutes with 11 points each. Fisk added six rebounds and seven points in the first half for the Lancers, who led 32-21.

"We got a lot of help from a lot of our guys tonight," said Head Coach Tim Collins. "Crabb came up big with 11 (points) in the first half. ... Luke Evans needed a break and Crabb played so well that we just kept him in the game."

CBU began the second half hot, outscoring the Argonauts 7-2 through the first three minutes.

NDNU's White exploded for nine points within the first nine minutes of the second half, bringing the Argonauts within eight points of the lead.

A turnover by the Lancers gave the ball to Argonaut James Northrup and with 10:36 left in the game he made the lay-up, and NDNU narrowed the score to 42-39.

A big defensive rebound by Anthony Cosentino got the Lancers the ball back and Romero nailed a shot from beyond the arc to extend CBU's lead.

"Romero gave us a huge lift," said Collins. "He made some nice plays in the first half, just getting bye his guy and dishing the ball. ... He broke the game open a couple of times on the shot clock, he'd wind it down to three seconds and make a play."

Shooting was key for the Lancers in the second half, they shot 57.1 percent from the field and 80 percent from beyond the arc.

Romero caught fire for the Lancers in the middle of the second half, scoring eight points in three minutes. Romero's performance comes on the heels of a career high 24-point performance against Holy Names earlier in the week.

He led all CBU scorers with 17 points, including nine coming from 3-point shots. White led all players with a 27-point output.

"He is a nice player, he really gives us a lift, especially when teams zone us," said Collins.

Collins also mentioned Fisk, Patterson and Jalen Jury as key contributors to the team win.

The victory moves the Lancers to 11-6 overall and 5-4 against PacWest opponents. They host the Academy of Art on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., they will look to extend their winning streak to three games.
