SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- Day two of the 2013 UCSB Winter Invite was more of the same for California Baptist University. The Lancers went 0-2 on the day and are now 0-5 on the season.
The No. 18 Lancers took on some stiff competition on this day, as they met the 2012 National Collegiate Athletic Association champions and No. 1 Stanford Cardinal.
Despite its best efforts, CBU was only able to muster up one goal against the champs, a third quarter score by Doris Tran. The lack of offensive firepower led to a 19-1 loss.
The next game seemed to hold more promise for the struggling Lancers, as they faced a team that they were 2-1 against all-time.
They fell behind early, trailing 5-4 at the half, but a strong third quarter pushed them ahead 7-6 heading into the final frame.
The Seawolves fought their way back into the game in the last quarter and sent the game to overtime tied 9-9. Sonoma State scored once in the first overtime period, and the Lancers failed to score, leaving them with another loss, 10-9.
The winless Lancers look to right the ship at home next weekend as they host their first tournament of the 2013 season.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Concordia, CSU Bakersfield, CSU Northridge, CSU San Bernardino, San Diego State and UC Irvine come to the Lancer Aquatics Center for the eight game Lancer Mini Invite on Feb. 2.
