SAN JOSE, Costa Rica --- California Baptist University Hall of Famer Verania Willis was honored as the top team sport athlete in Costa Rica at the annual gala of the Costa Rican Olympic Committee.

Willis took the top individual award of the night, while her Costa Rican National Team was honored with the Colibri Award as the best team sport.

The ceremony, held at Kaolte Board Room of the Children's Museum in San Jose, was chaired by the President of Costa Rica, H.E. Laura Chichilla Miranda accompanied by Henry Nuñez, president of the National Olympic Committee and Fernando Naranjo, general manager of the National Bank of Costa Rica.

Willis played at CBU from 2005-2007, helping the Lancers to an NAIA National Title in 2005, earning NAIA Player of the Year honors in the process. She was a three-time NAIA All-American, three-time All-Conference selection and also won Conference Player of the Year during her tenure at CBU.

Willis finished her career with 1,872 kills (second all-time), a .320 attack percentage, 849 digs and 226 total blocks.
