PRESCOTT, Ariz. --- It was another bust weekend for California Baptist University as a large portion of the wrestling squad competed in both the Mile High Duals and Mile High Open hosted by Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

The duals took place on Friday, Jan. 18. The Lancers went 1-1 on the night with a huge 42-9 win over the host Embry Riddle and a tough 21-17 loss to New Mexico Highlands University.

CBU won its most matches in a dual meet this season when it won eight of ten against the Eagles. Three pins and a technical fall win propelled the Lancers to the 33-point win.

The dual against New Mexico Highlands was much more intense as the Lancers took an early 11-0 lead that they then watched slip away when the Cowboys won six straight matches from 149-197-pounds. After that run, CBU trailed 22-11 and not even a 1:11 Zach Merrill pin could bring them back.

The Lancers are now 5-9 in dual meet competition in 2012-2013.

CBU had much more success in the Mile High Open on Jan. 19. The Lancers had seven wrestlers place and wins by Bradford Gerl and Kenneth Tribble gave CBU two champions.

"It came out pretty well," said Head Coach Lennie Zalesky. "The guys fought their way through some hard matches to win."

Second place finishes by David Dill and Merrill and third place finishes by Taylor Hall, Dakota Thayer and Alec Smith sealed a very successful day for the Lancers.

Hall was impressive with three wins by fall on his way to a 3-1 record. Thayer fought his way to an overtime victory in order to place third at 133-pounds.

Bradford Gerl dominated the 141-pound weight class picking up two wins by fall and a 19-2 technical fall win to go 3-0 and place first.

Tribble's first place finish is a season best for him and he performed very well picking up two 15-0 technical fall victories.

Next Saturday, the Lancers will head to Bakersfield for a dual against the 6-3 CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners.
