The Lancers received 49 points as the 13th member of NCAA's premier men's volleyball conference.
Defending NCAA National Champion UC Irvine was picked first in the poll with 11 first place votes and 143 points. BYU was picked second and had two first place votes.
The Lancers finished ahead of Pacific, Hawaii and UC San Diego in the conference poll.
CBU finished last season 12-16 in its first season of NCAA Division I-II play, competing as an independent as the school transitioned from the NAIA. The Lancers were accepted into the MPSF in January.
CBU returns four starters from last year's squad and brings in five newcomers including redshirts Levi Cabral and Guilherme Koepp. Cabral, who enters his senior season for the Lancers, was an NAIA All-American and Player of the Year, and ranks second in career kills (1,479) and third in service aces (136) for CBU.
The Lancers open the season at the Elephant Bar Tournament hosted by UC Santa Barbara Jan. 4-5. CBU opens the tournament facing UC Irvine and then also hosts the defending champs in the team's home opener and first ever MPSF match on Jan. 16.
