SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- Following the grueling Cliff Keen Invite last weekend, California Baptist University traveled to San Luis Obispo for a dual against the Mustangs.
The Lancers took an early lead when Hall pinned his opponent, Evan McKirdy, 2:26 into the 125-pound matchup. The freshman moves to 10-5 on the year, with six wins by fall.
They then had to forfeit at 133-pounds, but Gerl came up big at 141-pounds, securing a 7-1 win by decision.
At this point it seemed to be the Lancers in the drivers seat, but losses at 149-, 157- and 165-pounds put them behind the Mustangs, having to fight for a dual victory.
Tribble wrestled well at 174-pounds, earning a major decision victory over Cal Poly's Mitch Woods. Tribble has been strong for the Lancers throughout this young season, grappling to nine individual wins and 13 dual points.
An inopportune forfeit at 184-pounds and a loss at 197-pounds put the Lancers back in a hole that even a Mustang forfeit at 285-pounds could not help them overcome.
They move to 2-2 in duals this season, with wins against Menlo and Simpson and losses tonight and against Stanford Nov. 3
CBU will take the holiday season off, but will be back on the mats Jan 3, in the Van Dyne Gym, for a dual against the Colorado School of Mines. This is one of only two dual meets that the Lancers will host in 2012-2013.
