RIVERSIDE  --- California Baptist University Baseball Head Coach Gary Adcock announced today the early signing of four top-level recruits for the 2013-14 season.

These mark the first four freshman recruits who will be eligible to compete for NCAA Championships as CBU is in the final of its three-year transition to NCAA Division II.

“With the daunting task of having to replace our number one pitcher and middle of the batting order the coaching staff and particularly recruiting coordinator Andrew Brasington has addressed all our needs exceptionally well,” said Adcock, who is set to begin his 10th season at the helm of the Lancer program. “The four individuals we signed will make an immediate impact on our program and uphold the high standards set off the field, on the field and in the classroom. We look forward to helping them develop spiritually, academically and athletically."

Tyson Miller – RHP – La Quinta, Calif. (Shadow Hills HS)
•    Went 6-1 with a 1.24 ERA in 45 IP as the team’s ace as a junior
•    Had 59 strikeouts and one complete game
•    Named All-DeAnza League first team
•    Earned 2011 Desert Classic Tournament first team honors
•    Member of the Tampa Bay Rays scout ball team
•    Is a Southern California Scout Ball All-Star

“Tyson is a projectable right-handed pitcher,” said Adcock. “A true future number one pitcher in our program, Tyson will have an immediate impact next year. We are extremely excited to have him on board.”

Stephen Lohr – INF – Buena Park, Calif. (Cypress HS)
•    Hit .373 with two home runs and 21 RBIs as a junior
•    Earned All-Empire League honors
•    Played in Team USA Identification Series in Cary, N.C.
•    Named National Classic Tournament All-Tournament Team

“Steven will instantly be able to fill the holes left in the middle of our order with the departure of our seniors,” said Adcock. “He has tremendous power and outstanding arm strength, which are just a couple of the tools that excite us.”

Garrison Cole – OF – Palm Desert, Calif. (Xavier Prep)
•    Hit .426 as a junior, which was second in the Desert Valley League, tied with current Lancer Antonio Chavarria (Indio HS)
•    Earned All-Desert Valley League first team honors
•    Was in the top five in the league in average, slugging percentage and fielding percentage
•    Did not make an error defensively

“Garrison is a tremendous athlete who possesses all five tools,” said Adcock. “He is a very projectable player who we anticipate to be a solid outfielder in our program right away.”

Kyle Callahan – INF – Oak Hills, Calif. (Oak Hills HS)
•    Plays for former CBU standout and Hall of Famer Robert Muro
•    Hit .398 with two home runs, 27 RBIs and 10 doubles as a junior
•    High .409 with five home runs and 23 RBIs as a sophomore, winning a CIF Division V title
•    Was a two-time All-Mojave League and all-area honoree
•    Led team to two Mojave League titles

“Kyle is a true winner,” said Adcock. “He is a left-handed hitter who we think can instantly impact the middle of our order. He has the ability to use all fields at a young age but still drive the ball, which is a great combination.”

The Lancers are coming a 43-13 season, winning both the NCCAA National Championship and the Pacific West Conference title. It was the Lancers’ third straight conference championship.
