CLAREMONT, Calif. --- California Baptist University left the Gary Troyer tournament with a 1-3 record overall, following a 1-1 record on Saturday.

The 1-3 record does not reflect how the team played throughout the tournament, as they played three close games, including a one-goal loss to No. 10 Long Beach State.

"It was a tough loss," head coach Rick Rowland said. "We lost the game with nine seconds left."

The Lancers lost 9-8 to the 49ers on Saturday night, after holding an 8-7 lead with 1:26 left.

Facing Long Beach State was a really good opportunity for the No. 19 Lancers to show that they could play with the top teams in the nation.

CBU played them tough, until their late game lead slipped away in the final minute.

Goals were tough to come by in the game, but the Lancers still got eight of them from six different players.

Among those who scored for the Lancers was team leader in goals Scott Gleason and the team's highest goal scorer as of late, Keith Jizmejian.

CBU earned a victory against Occidental College earlier in the day, defeating the Tigers 16-6. They have now outscored Occidental 37-15 in two games against them this season.

The Lancers will not play again until they face Fresno Pacific in Fresno, Calif. on Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
