PALO ALTO, Calif. --- California Baptist University traveled to Northern California this weekend to compete in the highly competitive Stanford Invitational.

The men's team finished in 19th out of 29 teams today, edging out fellow Pacific West Conference schools Azusa Pacific, Academy of Art and Notre Dame De Namur.

Talal Khan finished 82nd overall out of 265 men and led the Lancers with an 8K time of 25:57. Mark Langworthy also had another good day, finishing only 21 seconds shy of Khan. Langworthy came in second for the Lancers and finished 110th overall.

CBU Head Coach Ben Gall also highlighted Josh Massey, who placed fourth for the Lancers with a time of 26:33, and has proven to be a consistent force for the team.

Victor Delgado posted a time of 26:24, while Josh Massey (26:33) and Lucas Graham (26:56) rounded out the Lancers' scoring.

"Though we still have a long way to go before the PacWest Championships, we are getting better each week," said Gall. "We are about to begin our preparation for the championship season now that October is here. The team is ready to cut back a little, and sharpen up, so they can be ready to run their best in another month."

The women's team finished in 25th place today out of 29 teams and was led once again by Jennifer Mallen, who clocked a 6K time of 21:39 and came in 22nd place out of 292 runners.

Natalie Ball also had an impressive day for the women. Ball finished 161st out of 292 runners with a time of 23:21. She came in third place for CBU and really pushed some of the top runners.

Ashlee Cervantes finished 128th overall and finished second for the Lancers with a time of 22:57.

Rebecca Asplund finished fourth for CBU with a time of 23:40, and Naomi Van Setten capped off the top five for the Lancers with a time of 23:50.

"Once we can get all the women to race well on the same day we are going to be a much stronger team. That just hasn't happened yet" said Gall.

CBU runs next at the UC San Diego Invitational Oct. 6.
