LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. --- California Baptist University opened its fall season at the Grand Canyon Invitational Monday, sitting in 13th after one round of play.

The Lancers shot a 325 to sit just nine strokes outside of the Top 10.

Playing in her first collegiate tournament, Katherine Pimpanit led the way for CBU, firing an opening round 78. She was the only Lancer to break 80. Pimpanit is currently in a tie for 23rd place.

"Our scores weren't quite where we would like them to be, but still this early in the season there are some positives we can take away from today," said CBU Head Coach Lane Pace, who enters his seventh season at the helm for the Lancers. "Seeing Kat perform that way in her first college golf tournament was great. We knew she was a very good player coming in and we expect her to contribute all year."

Nicollette Gino shot 80, Kirsten Keyser shot 82 and Kayla Jech rounded out the counting scores with an 85.

Grand Canyon and Oklahoma Christian lead the tournament at 302, and Academy of Art is one stroke back at 303.

The final round tees off tomorrow with the first group going out at 7 a.m.
