With a whiteout in the CBU Crazies section of the gym, CBU beat No. 10 (NAIA) Cal State San Marcos 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-22) in the team's home opener.

"There was a great energy and a great crowd out there tonight and our girls really fed off that energy," said CBU Head Coach Branden Higa. "The girls kept the momentum on our side and did a great job staying steady tonight."

Playing in front of a packed home crowd, the Lancers rode the excitement in the Van Dyne Gym to dominate the opening set.

CBU won the first game by nine points, ripping 17 kills and hitting .469. CBU committed just two errors in the set while CSUSM had six errors and just 10 kills. The Lancers' senior leader Ingrid Carmona got things started off right, smacking seven kills on 15 tries in the opening set

CBU fell behind early in each of the last two games, but the Lancers firepower was too much for the Cougars to contain as the home team stormed back in each set.

The teams traded the lead in the final game and with the set even at 18-18 CBU called a timeout. Out of the break CBU committed one of its just nine errors in the match, then proceeded to rattle off five straight points to go up 23-19.

The sideout game was good enough from there as Malika O'Brien finished the match off with a kill.

Carmona notched a team high 13 kills and Faith Steinwedell added 12. Steinwedell hit a blistering .524 in the match.

"If we can keep getting matches like that out of Faith it will be huge for us," said Higa. "She was great tonight."

Steinwedell also had four blocks. Jordyn Siko recorded 33 assists.

The Lancers move to 7-2 on the season with the win and CSUSM fell to 13-7. The Lancers have a week break before hosting Notre Dame de Namur next Friday.

"As we go forward we just need to keep focusing on being that cohesive team," said Higa. "We have great talent and the more they learn to play together the harder we'll be to beat.
