After eight season as an assistant, Bill Baber was named Head Softball Coach at CBU in the summer of 2011 and will now be entering his third season at the helm for the Lancers.

Baber spent 12 total seasons, including eight as an assistant to former head coach Mike Smith. Together the duo compiled a 467-56 (.893) record, won eight straight GSAC titles, won the 2009 NAIA National Championship and posted 60-win seasons in each of the past four years.

This past season Baber led the team to a 31-18 record, posting the program's 11th straight 30+ win season, keeping the streak of winning season's alive the Lancers have had going since 2001. Baber and his staff coached five All-PacWest players, including conference Freshman of the Year Jessica Avila, and two NCCAA All-Americans last season as well.

In 2012, Baber took over the reigns of the program and did not skip a beat, leading CBU to a 49-6 record, a PacWest Championship and an NCCAA National Title. The Lancers went 26-4 in their first season in the NCAA Division II conference, winning their final 17 PacWest games to take the conference title after being picked to finish third in a preseason poll.

Baber has several years of experience coaching at the collegiate level, most of which he has spent in the Golden State Athletic Conference and while serving as the recruiting coordinator for the Lancers.

In 2003, Baber took over the head coaching position at Biola after Smith left for UC Riverside. As the head coach at Biola, Baber directed the Eagles to a 25-27 overall record and sixth place in the GSAC with a mark of 12-16. In his four previous seasons as an assistant (1999-2002), Smith and Baber’s teams went 156-72, qualified for the Region II playoffs three times and won the regional title and advanced to the NAIA Softball World Series in 2002.

He was also a volunteer assistant coach for Long Beach (Calif.) Wilson High School’s softball team in 1997 and 1998.

Baber graduated from USC in 1990 with a degree in education.

He and his wife, Christy, reside in Yorba Linda along with his daughter Sydney.
