SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- California Baptist University traveled south to compete in the UC San Diego Triton Classic Saturday where the men placed fourth and the women took seventh overall.

Kim Rabenstein ran an impressive race leading the Lancer women and finishing 11th overall with a time of 23:05.5.

Kim Carter, Alysa Avila, Megan Smedley and Millie Lietich finished off the Top 5 for the CBU women.

“The highlight of the day was Kim Rabenstein who finished 11th in a very competitive D2 field” said Head Coach Ben Gall. “She ran very aggressively and showed that she can compete with some of the top teams in the region and nation.”

With only the Lancers’ underclassmen competing for the men, they managed to take fourth place behind No. 1 Chico State, No. 3 UC San Diego, and No. 4 Cal Poly Pomona.

The men tallied a total of 136 points in the 8k event consisting of eight total teams and 93 runners.

Sophomore, Miles Sustayta, led the Lancer men and finished 39th with a time of 27:37.1

Julian Hernandez followed closely behind Sustayta posting a time of 27:39.8 and finishing in the 40th spot.

Matt Fry, David Aguilar, and Garrett Williams closed out the Lancers’ scoring tab finishing 49th, 50th, and 56th respectively.

“Miles Sustayta and Julian Hernandez had their best races of the season and showed they are contenders to make the postseason roster in November” said Gall.

“This was a great weekend with a lot of good performances after a long time with no competition. Most of the athletes had not competed in a month. We are very excited to get everyone back together next week” Gall concluded.

The Lancers’ will head to Santa Clara next week for the Bronco Invitational.
