RIVERSIDE --- The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), have been released and California Baptist University had two athletes named to the 10-member NCAA Division II District 8 first team.

Senior Cole Bullard and redshirt sophomore Zach Esquerra were both named to the team. The Lancers were one of two programs; Hawaii Pacific was the other, to have two players named to the squad.

The honor is designed to recognize the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All‐America teams programs in 2011.

Bullard, a 3.53 student graduating Saturday with a degree in kinesiology, has played in more games than any other Lancer ever, playing in 218 games the past four years. He currently ranks among the program's all-time leaders in hits (3rd-241), runs (3rd-154), doubles (3rd-51), stolen bases (3rd-55) and RBIs (10th-121).

He is hitting .270 this year after moving from the infield to catcher but hit .301 in conference play. Bullard was an NAIA and GSAC Scholar-Athlete last season.

Esquerra, meanwhile, has a 3.84 GPA and majoring in criminal justice. He led the PacWest with eight home runs and was second with 17 doubles and third with 45 RBIs all while hitting .329. In two seasons, Esquerra has 25 career home runs, which is good for eighth in program history.

The Academic All‐District teams include the student‐athletes listed are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two‐year schools. District 8 includes Division II schools from the California Collegiate Athletic Association, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and the Pacific West Conference.

First‐team Academic All‐District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America Team ballot, where first‐, second‐ and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.
