BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --- California Baptist University achieved a sweep of top-notch opponents Saturday, beating No. 16 Hartwick and top-25 Brown, both with final scores of 11-9.
The win over Hartwick is CBU's first win against a ranked opponent this season. Today's pair of victories accounts for the Lancers tenth and eleventh straight wins ranging back since Feb 25.
"We had two very good wins today," Head Coach Jacob Medina said.
CBU, who has received votes in the national polls for the last three consecutive weeks, improves to 16-7.
To lead the Lancers, Tania Acavedo contributed a team-high seven goals on the day, notching four goals against Hartwick and a hat-trick against Brown.
Against Hartwick, Petra Kovacs had a hand in eight of the Lancers' 11 goals, scoring two herself and dishing out six assists. She also tallied a hat-trick against the Bears.
To beat Brown, CBU jumped out to an early 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and despite being outscored 5-2 in the second half, including a shutout fourth quarter, hung on for the 11-9 victory. The Lancers relied on their 6-on-5 attack offense, scoring on nine of 11 opportunities.
Goalkeeper Camryn Rogers tallied nine saves in both matches.
Including today's two matches, eight of CBU's last 10 opponents of the regular season have received votes or are top-20 ranked in the CWPA's most recent poll.
CBU travels to Redlands next Saturday, Mar. 31, to face-off with the Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m.
