RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- The streak continued for California Baptist University as it took down No. 15 Loyola-Chicago in an epic five set match.

CBU defeated the Ramblers (25-23, 26-24, 18-25, 20-25, 15-13), this was the fifth game in a row the Lancers have won.

"Huge doesn't describe what this win means to us," said Interim Head Coach Allan Vince. "We came out strong in the first two sets, but started to fall apart in the third and fourth. I was proud of the guys and how they responded in the fifth set and came out really strong. Loyola-Chicago is a really strong team and can turn the table on you if you are not careful. Our guys decided that this was their home court and they were not going to lose this one."

In the opening set, both teams traded points back and forth throughout the game. As a team the Lancers hit .500 with 16 kills on 26 attempts while the Ramblers hit .357 with 14 kills on 28 attempts. The Lancers took the largest lead of the set at 24-21, but the Ramblers would fire off two-straight points. The Lancers would respond off a booming kill by Kristopher Johnson to take the set.

Johnson proved to be unstoppable in the first set hitting a perfect six kills on six attempts with one block. Jonathan Tuttle had a percentage of .800 with four kills on five attempts with two blocks.

The score was tied 11 times and only changed hands twice.

The Ramblers came out strong in the second set, but could not withstand the perseverance of the Lancers. With the Ramblers leading at 15-14 Aaron McCalmont fired off a power kill to tie the game. The Lancers would go on to take the lead for the rest of the set.

The Lancers hit .143 with 10 kills on 28 attempts; the Ramblers had 14 kills on 31 attempts hitting .258. The score was tied eight times and changed hands five times throughout the set.

The third game looked a lot like the second, as the Ramblers came out strong and put the pressure on the Lancers. The Ramblers gained a lead of 18-14 after a big team block, which then forced a Lancer timeout. After the timeout the Ramblers fired off four-straight points, which pushed the lead to 22-14 and gave them the victory in the third.

The Lancers hit a game low .033 with 10 kills on 30 attempts and nine errors. The Ramblers hit .423 with 13 kills on 26 attempts and only forced two errors.

In the fourth set the Ramblers took the momentum from the last set and carried it into the fourth. The Lancers made a run late in the set, but could not overcome the six service errors and six attacking errors forced in the match. The Lancers improved their hitting percentage to .267, but the Ramblers hit a game high .435. The score was never tied and never changed hands.

In the fifth and final set, the Lancers took back the momentum that once was theirs, as they rallied to keep the streak alive. The Lancers hit .158 with six kills on 19 attempts; the Ramblers hit .000 with seven kills on 25 attempts and seven attacking errors.

Connor Metcalfe finished with 50 assists and McCalmont was the kill leader with 19 kills hitting .256.

The Lancers move to 8-13 on the season and will play in the Active Ankle Tournament this weekend in Long Beach, Calif.
