LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Through three days of the PCSC Championships, California Baptist University men's and women's swim teams have continued to secure second place, each only trailing DII No. UC San Diego.
Earning 282 points today alone, the CBU women's team currently stands at 829.5 points, extending a nearly 300 point cushion over Fresno Pacific in third with 531 points. Despite shuffling between FPU and Concordia for third place in the men's competition, CBU used 504 points to hold down second, currently standing at 962 points.
Mary Hanson earned herself another podium spot in the women's 100 backstroke, finishing second at 55.23 seconds.
In the best collective race of the day, CBU placed four in the top seven finishers in the men's 100 yard backstroke. Robert Nichols came in second with a time of 50.75 seconds and Patrick Cardillo followed up with third at 51.29. Taylor Kile and Kiakahi Matsumoto finished sixth and seventh.
In diving, Trevor Graifman finished in the bronze spot for CBU on the 3M board with a final score of 332.70.
The relay team of Nichols, Matthew Chong, Toy and Tai Nuntapramote placed second with a time of 3:23.82 in the men's 400 medley relay finals while CBU finished third in women's 400 medley relay, using the team of Hanson, Gina Rhue, Hazel Castillo and Hannah Braun to record a 3:53.30 finish.
Castillo just missed the podium in the women's 100 meter butterfly, finishing fourth at 57.22 seconds, less than a tenth of a second behind bronze.
Nuntapramote was the only Lancer in the top five in the men's 200 freestyle, finishing fourth at 1:42.35. Chong also finished fifth in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 58.46 seconds.
Molly Larson and Gina Rhue finished fifth and tenth in the 100 breaststroke. Larson clocked in at 1:06.82 and Rhue finished at 1:07.82.
10 events are left to be swam on the fourth and final day of competition on Saturday, including the 1650 freestyle, the 100 and 200 yard butterfly and 400 freestyle relays.
