The Lancers had four placers.
Gerl was the only champion as he went 4-0 in the tournament with a fall and a tech fall in addition to his major decision over Kelly in the finals. Kelly is the fifth-ranked 141-pounder in the Pac-12.
In addition to Gerl, Jimmy Martinez finished second at 125, Zach Merrill was second at 285, and C.J. Knowland was third at 174.
Martinez won his first three matches, two by fall, but he lost 2-0 to Tyler Iwamura of Cal State Bakersfield in the finals. The loss snapped a 17-match winning streak for Martinez, who is now 30-5 on the season.
Merrill got to the finals with a pin of Menlo's Leonard Romero in the semifinals and then fell 5-3 to Atticus Disney of Cal Poly SLO in the finals, the fourth-ranked heavyweight in the Pac-12. Merrill's loss ended his 13-match winning streak.
At 174, senior C.J. Knowland snapped a 13-match losing streak and roared through the wrestleback bracket to finish third. He pinned Jesus Ambriz of Cal State Bakersfield in the wrestleback finals in 1:53. After losing his opener, Knowland reeled off five straight wins, getting a major decision and two falls.
The Lancers very nearly had a fifth placer as Craig Seidenglanz got to the semifinals of the wrestlback bracket, coming within one match of placing. He lost to Sam Cano (unattached), 2-1.
CBU will now be off for the next month and will conclude its 2012 campaign at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) National Championships March 8-10 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Lancers are the No. 1-ranked team in the NCWA and the defending champions.
