RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University sophomore defender Tyler Aagard was named Golden State Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon, the conference office announced.
It is Aagard's first career weekly honor, and it is the fourth straight week the Lancers have had someone earn a conference weekly honor. Aagard joins previous winners Osvaldo Bastida, Tiburcio Casillas and Jeff Redinger.
Aagard was a key member of the Lancer defense that posted 180 consecutive minutes of scoreless soccer last week as the seventh-ranked Lancers posted back-to-back shutouts of Biola (1-0) and No. 23 The Master's (4-0). It was the first back-to-back shutouts of the season for the Lancers.
In the Lancers' 4-0 win over defending GSAC champion The Master's, Aagard also scored his first collegiate goal with a header off a free kick in the fifth minute. It turned out to be the game-winning goal.
The Lancers put their school-record seven-game winning streak on the line Tuesday when they host fifth-ranked Vanguard at 3 p.m. in a game between nationally-ranked teams tied atop the GSAC standings.
