Ryan Jorden begins his fifth season as the head men's soccer coach at California Baptist University, and is already the most successful coach in program history.

In just four short seasons, Jorden has carried the Lancer program to places it has never been before his arrival. After just one postseason berth from 1985-2007, Jorden is the first coach in program history to take the Lancers to four straight postseason berths, going in each of his four seasons at the helm, including their first-ever NAIA national tournament appearance in 2010.

His four-year career mark is now 44-25-8. He is one of just two coaches in prgram history with a winning career record, and his .571 winning percentage is the best in program history.

The CBU program again reached new heights in 2011, setting yet another new mark for wins with a 17-5-1 record and winning a first ever NCCAA National Championship. In their first season in the NCAA Division II PacWest Conference, Jorden led the Lancers to a 10-2 conference mark and a PacWest title. CBU went on to run the table through five games in the NCCAA regional and national tournaments, taking the title with a 2-1 win over Geneva in the finals.

The Lancers had three players named NCCAA All-American and six players named to the All-PacWest first and second teams. Joey Pacheco was named PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year and Michael Salazar was named the PacWest's Freshman of the Year.

For his efforts, Jorden was named NCCAA National Coach of the Year.

In 2010 the Lancers won a then program-record 15 games, finishing 15-5, their first winning season since 2003. They won a program-record 13 straight games and came within one win of the conference title, finishing 8-2 in GSAC play. Along the way, the Lancers had four wins over nationally-ranked teams, including a 2-1 win over NCAA Division I No. 28-ranked Sacramento State, which eventually went to its second-straight NCAA Tournament.

The Lancers made their first-ever appearance in the NAIA Top 25, climbing in at No. 18 in the first regular-season poll, and then they never left. They eventually climbed to No. 5 before settling in at No. 11 in the final poll of the season. CBU picked up its first-ever postseason win with a 1-0 victory over Westmont in the GSAC Tournament and eventually earned an at-large bid to the national tournament.

A program-best five players--Tyler Aagard, Osvaldo Bastida, Carlos Figueroa, Tyler Mitchell and Willie Rupert--earned All-GSAC honors. Figueroa became the program's first NAIA All-American since 1992, earning second team honors. Aagard and Bastida also earned CoSIDA ESPN Academic All-District honors. As a team, the Lancers had six straight conference player of the week honors, and three of them earned national player of the week honors.

In 2009, CBU finished 5-7-4 overall, 4-5-1 GSAC but made its second straight postseason appearance. Along the way, the Lancers tied NCAA Division I UNLV (1-1) and NAIA No. 25-ranked Concordia (Ore.) (1-1) and beat No. 24-ranked Concordia (Calif.) (3-0) on the final day of the regular season. The Lancers won their final three regular-season games, outscoring their opponents, 14-1, in the process. They narrowly lost, 1-0, to No. 7-ranked and eventual national runner-up The Master's in the opening round of the GSAC Tournament.

In his first season as a collegiate head coach in 2008, Jorden inherited a team that finished 6-10-1 in 2007, winning just two conference games. He led the Lancers to a 7-8-3 overall mark, their highest win total since 2005, and into the GSAC Postseason Tournament. It was the Lancers' first postseason appearance in 18 years, and they came within minutes of advancing to the semifinals for the first time ever before falling at top-seed and defending national champion Azusa Pacific, 1-0, on a goal in the 88th minute. Along the way, the Lancers picked up wins over NCAA Division II Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona as well as GSAC wins over Point Loma Nazarene and No. 14-ranked Vanguard.

Jorden, who was hired Dec. 19, 2007, is just the fourth head coach since CBU restarted men’s soccer in 1985.

Prior to coming to CBU, Jorden served as the lead assistant coach for Dave Wolf at GSAC-rival Westmont from 2000-07. During his time in Santa Barbara, the Warriors were 82-39-11 and were consistently ranked in the NAIA Top 25. In 2000, the Warriors were ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, regional champions and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Tournament, finishing 19-5 overall. The Warriors were back-to-back GSAC co-champions in 2001 and 2002.

A graduate of Westmont, Jorden played for the Warriors from 1991-1994 and during that time was part of 65 wins and two national tournament appearances. He earned his bachelor’s in kinesiology from Westmont in 1995 and then became the assistant coach with the men’s soccer program at NCAA Division I Oregon State University in 1996. During his four years at OSU, he completed his master’s degree in exercise science.

After returning to coach at Westmont for three years, he took a leave of absence in 2003 to pursue his Ph.D. in sport and exercise science with an emphasis in biomechanics at Northern Colorado, which he finished in October 2010. During that 2003 season, he worked as an assistant coach with the UNC soccer program. Returning to Westmont in the fall of 2004, Jorden resumed his coaching responsibilities and also served as a full-time member of the kinesiology faculty teaching courses in biomechanics, research methods, motor control and a variety of physical activity courses.

A United States Soccer Federation (USSF) ‘A’ licensed coach with Olympic Development Program (ODP) experience in multiple states, Jorden is beginning his 17th season of collegiate coaching. He also has a U.S. Youth Soccer National "Y" license and is on the CalSouth coaching education staff and ODP Region IV staff.

A native of Santa Barbara, Jorden and his wife Liz are proud parents of two sons, Graeme (9) and Evan (7).
